This course is aimed to enable the students to gain good German abilities both in listening response and oral expression. It will provide the students with extensive exposure to different kinds of dialogues and articles in German by asking them to do listening exercises. The students are also required to understand the content and answer certian questions regarding the learning materials.

The course aims at instructing Japanese pronunciation, daily expression and fundamental grammar. Meanwhile, teachers in this class will instruct students in the basic knowledge of Japanese from a perspective of the pragmatic linguistics and the cognitive linguistics as well as the application of Japanese.Have studied in this course, students may master Japanese pronunciation and tone, basic grammar and sentences as well as daily vocabularies ranging from 2000 to 2500 words. Students also may be equipped with abilities to listen, speak, read, write and translate which will prepare them for Japanese language, culture and literature.

This course is mainly for the students, who take German as the second foreign language and provide them the opportunities to get close to the culture and language of German-speaking countries. The course includes a comprehensive introduction of grammar and vocabularies, improves students` listening, speaking, reading, writing and translation skills. At the same time the introduction of Germany`s politics, economy, education, culture, society, history and other curriculum will be taken into account, so that students can also get an overview of the German-speaking countries while learning German.

This course tries to teach French pronunciation, common terms, basic grammar, basic sentences and frequently used expressions. Teachers need to adopt a flexible teaching method to encourage students to speak, and make an effective use of multimedia equipment, for the training of basic voice and intonation.

This is a language practice cours, which aims to develop students` written communication skills and requires students to write different types of texts, such as summary, comment, narrative text, expository text, descriptive text and other practical texts.

This course, focuses on the fundamental elements of the German language within a cultural context. Emphasis is on the progressive development of listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. Upon completion, students should be able to comprehend and respond with increasing proficiency to spoken and written German as well as demonstrate further cultural awareness. This course has been approved to satisfy the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement for the general education core requirement in humanities/fine arts.

Writing is a skill that is required in many contexts throughout life. However, academic writing does many of the things that personal writing does not: it has its own set of rules and practices. These rules and practices may be organised around a formal order or structure in which to present ideas, in addition to ensuring that ideas are supported by author citations in the literature. In contrast to personal writing contexts, academic writing is different because it deals with the underlying theories and causes governing processes and practices in everyday life, as well as exploring alternative explanations for these events. Academic writing follows a particular ‘tone’ and adheres to traditional conventions of punctuation, grammar, and spelling.

The course focus on instruction the writing method and skills concerning the introduction of Japanese, specification, report, correspondence and so forth. Students in this class are trained to master the features of these genres of Japanese writing. At the same time, they also could utilize these skills in their own Japanese writing. In the course of studying, students can learn about Japanese mode of thinking so that they could apply Japanese in a decent way and gradually develop their Japanese writing abilities

Translation theory and fundamental techniques will be used to enhance ability of translation from Chinese into Japanese by translation practice of words, sentences, essays, news reports, technological articles and literature. Focal and difficult points include grammatical characteristics of both Chinese and Japanese, the relationship between context and wording and phrasing. Decomposition of sentences, the application of verb and honorific, and the translation of a particular sentences structure will be emphatically discussed in this course.

This lesson has as objective to make possibilities for students to practice their French knowledge. After 2 or 3 years of studies, they already have a lot of vocabulary and some notions about the grammar. So what they need is to use them with some real occasions. So the teacher will create for them a few situations for their practical possibilities. From the most simple dialogue situations as official presentations of delegations, to more complicate and long discourses, from everyday’s life subjects to political, economical, technical and cultural subjects, the students can try a lot of possibilities of French-chinese and Chinese-french conversations.

Translation (from French to Chinese and vice versa) is a course aiming at training the students to use French they have learned from classroom, and familiarizing themselves with the basic rules and important skills in translating texts from one language to the other, so as to help them build up their own ability needed in the field of translation.

The present course focuses on the influential major events and historical periods in French history. Besides, the course illustrates the way these major events and critical historic periods influence the procession of French history and their contributions to French civilization. In addition, the bilingual course provides students a French vocabulary data base to assist them in the French expressions of historic events and figures.

This course classifies and filters the classic German essays with an awareness of problems. The articles are selected from a variety of sources, of which the authors are philosophers, writers, artists as well as sociologists, historians and natural scientists. The main themes are a few ideological red lines, such as the Enlightenment and Romanticism, the artist problem and the question of the Jews, the question of the German national character and the normalization of Germany. Reading these classic essays not only helps deepening the understanding and respect for the German nation gifted with numerous poets and philosophers, but also encourages people to reflect upon certain thought-provoking problems of Germany. Many articles are the confirmation to the statement "the beauty of the language lies in a thinking mind.”

The "Novelle" is a very popular genre for German writers. There are a number of masterpieces of this genre in the German history of literature. In this course, we will read classics such as Heinrich v. Kleist, E.T.A. Hoffmann, Theodor Storm, as well as modern works by Thomas Mann or Günter Grass. For the preparation of their talks, students are expected to learn the interpretation of the text, and to use text analysis tools during the discussion. The students will also improve their language skills by reading of the texts.

The course "German Translation" gives at first an acount of the characteristics of both languages German and Chinese and theoretical basics of their translation possibility from the one language into the another. Then, it tells about a lot of general methods and techniques to translate differenl texts with different stiles.

This course is designed for junior undergraduates major in Japanese, being preliminary course of ancient Japanese. With foundation of 2-year preliminary study of Japanese and understanding of culture and history of the nation, students will understand the difference between ancient grammar and modern grammar by learning of ancient grammar of Japanese. They will also learn about the evolution of Japanese, thus facilitating deeper understanding and proficiency of modern Japanese. It aims to help students to acquire fundamental knowledge of ancient grammar in Japanese, thus achieving enhancement of the capability in reading, comprehension and appreciation of ancient and classical literature.
