Social Welfare and Social Assistance
This course surveys the history of social welfare policy, services, and the social work profession.It explores current social welfare issues in the context of their history and the underlying rationale and values that support different approaches. Emphasis is placed on major fields of social work service such as: income maintenance, health care, mental health, child welfare, corrections, and services to the elderly. Analytic frameworks with regard to social welfare policies and services are presented. These frameworks identify strengths and weaknesses in the current social welfare system with respect to multiculturalism and diversity; social justice and social change; behavioral and social science theory and research; and social work relevant promotion, prevention, treatment,and rehabilitation programs and services in relations to the diverse dimensions (including ability,age, class, color, culture, ethnicity, family structure, gender (including gender identity and gender expression), marital status, national origin, race, religion or spirituality, sex, and sexual orientation).
Western Sociological Theory
Classical Sociological Theory and Modern Sociological Theory attempt to give a fundamental mapping of key figures, works and concepts of sociological theory, by tracing some mainlines, problematics and characters of European sociological theory from 1930’s to the contemporary "post- era”, and to build up the basic ability of reading sociological theoretical texts.

Introduction to Social Work
This is an introductory course mainly designed for the students in the field of sociology and social work, aiming to load the students with fundamental background, concepts, theories, methods and future trend of social work as a helping profession in a changing social context. The four-credit course will be mainly taught through lectures, group discussions, case analysis and student-oriented learning activities. In the process of classroom teaching, the lecturer will spend majority of time on introducing the history of social work profession, social welfare institution, values and ethics of social work, human behaviors and social environment, social work theories, social work methods and leading the students to deepen their understanding the ethics, skills and knowledge base of social work profession. More important, this course will also highlight the significance of developing social work profession in China.

This course introduces you to the basics of social statistics—techniques that sociologists and other social scientists use to summarize numeric data obtained from censuses,surveys, and experiments.
Methods of Social Survey and Social Research
This course--Methods of Social Survey and Social Research is designed for finding and solving kinds of social problems, providing the basic principles、programs、methods and applications of social research methods.

Poverty and Development
This course introduces the basic concepts and theories about poverty and development and the problems of poverty in both the developed countries and developing countries and their efforts to fight these problems. It discusses the issues concerning the impoverished areas in our country, the differences in regional development, the polarization of the rich and the poor, urban poverty, microfinance and other topics. The course aims to further the students` understanding and insight on the problems of poverty.

This course examines the meaning and development of Chinese social thought in the context of Chinese society’s transformation and explores the native cultural resources for China’s sociological development.
Statistic Package for Social Science
This course provides an overview of the widely-used statistical methods in scientific research and the fundamentals of using the SPSS Base System. The course introduces the interfaces and functions of SPSS and teaches the skills necessary to perform a variety of statistical analyses with both user-friendly interface and syntax. The topics of this course include an overview of SPSS, managing data, creating and editing charts and tables, describing variables, conducting t tests, one-way ANOVA, multi-way ANOVA, correlation, regression and advanced statistical methods like nonparametric analyses, factor analysis, reliability analysis and etc. This course has a companion course "SPSS advanced statistics – laboratory”, which is to be taken at the same time.

Management
General Management is a fundamental course for students of management, also an extension course for non-management students. The course will take perspectives of management need, managers, and management process, focus on the framework of management goal, process, and effectiveness, following the lines of institution, decision, planning, motivation, control, cost, change, and mechanism; defining related scope, functions, and rules; investigating theoretical and practical issues; utilizing exercises, simulation, and other types of activities and discussion, with the aim of helping students improve managerial knowledge, practice their managerial capabilities, and grasp managerial laws by taking advantage of multiple angles of material architecture and mechanism.
The goal of this course is to help students understand management of fundamental scope, theory, and methodologies; help students improve the abilities of defining, analyzing, and solving problems; help students prepare a foundation for learning subsequent courses; help non-management students equip themselves with management knowledge.
The content of this course include management need in globalization; managers, management activities, and management goal; mission, directions, and functions of institutions; design of organizational structure and staffing; problems, routine, and non-routine decisions; goal and planning; team behavior, negotiation, and motivation in operations; standardization, process control, and information system; cost/ benefit of management and performance evaluation; environmental challenges and organizational change; the science and art sides of managerial mechanism; managerial thoughts of leaders and their development.
Social Psychology
Social psychology includes how to interact with individuals and groups, and how groups interact with each other. Social psychology can explain human behavior by using psychology theories. This course includes main theories and concepts of the mainstream social psychology. This course also analyzes how to apply social psychology knowledge to social lives, including interpersonal relationship development, communication and conflict etc.. This course also introduces culture perspective to explain human behavior.
