Applicants are evaluated on an individual basis, but are expected to have basic knowledge of discrete mathematics, linear algebra, probability, statistics, relational databases, and some programming such as Matlab, C++, Java, Python, or Ruby.

Any applicant whose undergraduate degree was earned at an institution where the primary language of instruction is not English must submit Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), Pearson Test of English (PTE), or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) scores. if a student has a total score of 90 or above, they will NOT be required to take an English assessment exam in any section even if they receive less than 20 subscore (Column D) in any section.(http://admissions.iit.edu/graduate/apply/english-proficiency-requirements)
